STRONG KIDS CAMPAIGN
The YMCA has a philosophy of not turning a child or family away due to inability to pay. The Strong Kids Campaign along with the United Way makes this possible. Each year the Kankakee Area YMCA asks for financial help in a community where over 2,000 families and their children receive scholarship assistance for membership, Summer Day Camp, and School Age Child Care programs. This allows less fortunate children to participate in the YMCA programs that stress the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We believe these values are essential in fulfilling the mission and vision of the YMCA. In addition, these values assist in the development of children and teens into tomorrow's citizens and leaders.
Making this philosophy a reality requires contributions from our community. YMCA membership fees do not cover the cost of supporting those in need of scholarship assistance. Your contributions are critical in helping to insure our promise that everyone can be a part of the YMCA, regardless of their financial resources.
YOUTH CO-ED BASEBALL
Through practice and game play, children are taught the basic fundamentals of baseball, teamwork, and sportsmanship, as well as the core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

The boys' relay teams swamat the Area meet in Dekalb on March 17th and did great! In the Medley relay (Jason Mullins, Chris Ryan, Connor Jumonville & Alex Palacios) they dropped time and moved up in the placings to finish 19th. In the 200 Free relay (Jason, Drew Zugenbuehler, Connor & Alex) they hoped to finish with a time faster than 1:50.00. They finished with a 1:49.52 and moved up to 21st place.
Congratulations to our swimmers! Their dedication and hard work in practice earned them spots in the Area meet; they continued to improve and were a great team yesterday. We are very proud of you all!
Thank you also to the parents and families for bringing their swimmers to practices and meets. We couldn't do it without you!
Reminder: for those swimmers who want to keep swimming we offer conditioning practice Mondays thru Thursdays for $33/month. You can sign up for the rest of March, April and May. We also have competitive swim lessons for swimmers who are working on their strokes. The next session starts April 15th and it is offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for $25/seven-week session.
Y INSTALLS NEW POOL UV SYSTEM
This past September, the Kankakee Area YMCA installed three ProMinent Ultraviolet (UV) Systems into its pool water treatment process. UV systems are a powerful tool in the fight against algae, germs, bacteria, and microscopic parasites (i.e. Cryptosporidium and Giardia). When used in conjunction with sand filters it keeps pool water healthy and sparkling! In addition, the treatment of swimming pool water by means of a UV system effectively reduces the level of chloramines, the chemical smells that we associate with indoor swimming pools. Our new UV systems provide the cleanest, safest and most comfortable pools in the area!
To learn more about UV systems, checkout the attached video report from Medford, Oregon.
YOUTH CO-ED
KICKBALL LEAGUE
Does your child enjoy both soccer and baseball? Then we have the sport for them! This 4-week league is a great transition from indoor soccer to t-ball, as it improves kicking skills as well as incorporates the rules of t-ball.
